Getting Rid of Cellulite - Forget Everything You Thought You Knew

Cellulite is a nightmare that many people wish they could wake up from. People spend millions of dollars every year trying to get rid of the unsightly dents and ripples that we know as cellulite. The problem with this is that not a lot of people really understand cellulite and what causes it. This leads people to take steps that really do no good in terms of eliminating cellulite. It seems to be a viscous cycle for many people. The problem with cellulite is that is can occur on anyone, no matter whether they are skinny or fat. For this reason many people are baffled by it and have no idea what to do. The following information may help prevent people from spending a ton of money trying to get rid of cellulite and help educated them on what causes it in the first place.

What Causes Cellulite?

First and foremost cellulite is genetic, meaning the way you carry fat is hereditary. For example, some people carry a much higher level of fat in their lower regions than in their upper body, and some people carry more fat in their arms than in their buttocks etc. There are also some people who just tend to have less body fat naturally. Genes play a major role in cellulite and weight issues and there is not a lot that can be done about some of these things. However, cellulite is also caused or aggravated by the introduction of toxins into our body. People who drink alcohol, use street drugs or smoke cigarettes have a much higher chance of developing unsightly cellulite than people who live a cleaner and healthier lifestyle.

Can You Ever Fully Eliminate Cellulite?

The short answer is no, there have been no medical advancements as of yet that will help you completely eliminate cellulite. However, this in no way means that a person should give up. There are many things that can be done to at least reduce the appearance of cellulite. There are also some things which a person can do to help minimize it. The most important thing is to understand that cellulite is not caused by over eating or weight gain. It can occur on anyone, no matter how over weight or under weight they may be. In order to begin to reduce cellulite and help flush at least some of it from our lives it is important to let go of all the preconceived notions we have had of it. Forget everything you have believed to be true of cellulite and educate yourself on the facts. Stop spending all of your hard earned cash on things that will not make a bit of difference and start working on getting rid of cellulite from the inside out.

Detoxing Your Body

The first step in successfully minimizing cellulite is by reducing the amount of toxins we have in our bodies. There are many products on the market right now and many detoxification plans to help clean out your body so that you can start with a clean slate. If you have bad habits, you will want to quit them altogether before you make the decision to begin a detoxification program. This means that if you are a smoker, your first order of business will be to stop smoking before you begin. The same can be said of anything else such as excessive drinking or drug abuse. Anything you do to introduce toxins in your body should be eliminated, at least significantly decreased. It would be almost impossible to fully eliminate toxins from our diets and there are just so many of them out there in almost everything that goes into our mouths. The goal here is to reduce them to as minimum an amount as possible.

Drink Plenty of Water

As you are probably already aware, water helps keep your body flushed and helps carry toxins through your kidneys and liver, thereby assisting your body in effectively removing them. If a person does not consume enough water, toxins can easily become trapped and lead to cellulite development. If you have been told to drink eight 8oz glasses of water each day, shoot for ten! This may sound a lot easier than it really is and at first you may find yourself forcing water down your throat. This is especially true if you are like the many people in the world who do not like the taste of water, or lack thereof. A very good way to make sure that you drink enough water is to eliminate everything else you normally drink from your daily routine and replace it with water. This will mean water at mealtimes as well as in between. Try making a water schedule such as drinking one full glass upon waking, one before each meal and then maybe one in between each meal. When you go out, carry a water bottle with you everywhere. This will help ensure that water is available anytime you get thirsty.

Do Not Take Cellulite Treatment Products Too Seriously

It is easy to go out and spend $30+ on creams that are alleged to get rid of cellulite but more times than not the result is disappointment. As of right now there is absolutely no skin car creams that are 100% effective in getting rid of cellulite so you must keep that in mind before you run out shopping. The good news is there are some things you can do to help at least minimize the appearance of cellulite. Look for caffeine as an active ingredient when you are looking for skin creams to help treat troubled areas as caffeine is said to help minimize the amount of water that is trapped in fat pockets. This may not be fool proof but it cannot hurt. There are also many products out there that are said to work by exfoliation. This is a wonderful concept but do not expect them to dig down into your fat cells and get rid of cellulite. At best they will make your skin feel softer to the touch but they will not eliminate the dents and ripples under your skin.

One good suggestion for anyone who is struggling with cellulite is to try some self tanning products as sometimes darkening your skin will help camouflage the appearance of cellulite. The most important thing to remember is that you are not alone. None of us look like the airbrushed super models we see in magazines so you should never have goals that are that high for yourself. Look at yourself in a realistic sense and do all that you can. At the end of the day you will be left feeling a lot better about yourself as a result.
